Whilst legislation and regulation provide a strong basis for employee satisfaction, and has driven significant strides towards making work pay, we understand that wellbeing at work goes beyond what the law demands – employers can and should go further to introduce measures that make their people feel truly safe, heard and supported at work.

That’s why I’m so proud that our Family Matters network has been shortlisted at this year’s Employee Network Awards – recognition of the positive impact it’s already having on our people.

Jack Kidder, Responsible Business Manager

Since launching in 2023, the network, which offers a safe space for parents and carers to support each other, has grown rapidly and is now an important and influential group in our business.

From the outset, Family Matters has been more than just a discussion forum. The network has played a direct role in shaping policies that support our people, such as adoption leave, carers’ leave and neonatal care leave.

Equally important are the less visible outcomes. The network gives parents and carers a community where they can share challenges and feel understood. That lived experience has been brought into senior-level conversations, helping the business consider how it can operate in a way that better reflects the realities of working life for parents and carers. It has also fostered a culture of compassion and understanding that permeates all levels of the business.

Family Matters has also introduced new ways for colleagues and families to connect. From a family Christmas event, where children were welcomed into the workplace, to a company-wide webinar on work-life balance, these initiatives create opportunities to bring people together and spark important conversations. The network has also influenced how we think about agile and flexible working, ensuring the voices of parents and carers are heard when it matters most.

The network has already made its mark, but what makes it truly powerful is the people that make it up. Their perspectives, openness and support are what drive its success. Being shortlisted for this award is a reflection of their impact and an exciting step in what promises to be an even bigger journey ahead.
