Describe a typical day in your job role?

A typical day for me is processing subcontractor orders and rectifying any issues with them. It can involve communicating directly with the subcontractor and the Quantity Surveyor. I also process the subcontractor questionnaires when they are approved and get them processed and uploaded onto the system. I help with placing orders and obtaining prices for tenders and other adhoc duties.

Describe a typical day in your job role?

My typical day begins at 8.45am. The very first job I do before I sit down is to make everyone in my department a drink. I switch my computer on and I do the next day deliveries/contracts on the Mcs system.  I answer incoming calls taking hires for accommodation units and also sales enquiries for sales of accommodation units, following these up with sales quotation. I am responsible for the purchasing of all material orders, wood, electrical, plumbing etc raising and placing orders with suppliers. Sorting out of invoice queries for our accounts. I pass all the purchase invoices and rehire invoices for our department, for payment. I am very busy with taking and writing up orders for our Banner Loo Events, arranging deliveries and collections and rehiring equipment that event organisers require and taking instructions from the Banner Loo Sales Manager to make sure these events go smoothly.  I make sure that all events are paid for before delivery by taking card payments on the card machine. Our Sales Representative use me as their internal contact to type up their quotations and write up their orders they have taken whilst on the road.

What is your secret talent?

This is a hard one, I don't claim to have a secret talent. People would say it's my personality, you could put me in a room of strangers and I would talk to anyone. I am very much a people person. I feel that I am a fair person, kind and respectful and get on with customers very well. I am a good problem solver. Just out of curiosity I asked my dad to answer this question on my behalf, he told me I could talk for England and that I make a great roast dinner and a good chocolate cake!

Describe a typical day in your job role?

First job of the day is to ensure a copy of the bank statement is saved ready for whoever is doing the figures this week, I do these at least once a week, it is mostly waiting for information from colleagues then collating all info together for a final report to Darren, Steve and John.  If I am on petty cash I need to get the keys and reconcile before anyone comes for change or payment, keep on top of monies going in or out by updating spreadsheet. Print off all approved payment certs for processing for the day, work through these ensuring queries are solved ready for payment.  Check bank and company details are up to date and they are claiming the correct amount. Deal with any telephone calls that come in, help the subcontractors where I can, either passing on the info they require or pointing them in the direction of the correct QS responsible for their site.  Check through any statement I receive and request copy invoices, again passing on to the QS responsible for the site so a payment can be created and processed. Any payments made that are Applications for payments we require a tax receipt signed and return, need to ensure we receive these for HMRC purposes, have to keep chasing and update list. Help Mark where I can, if required. Learning new things daily. Plus loads of adhoc jobs that crop up during the day. Of course during all this I make a few cuppas to keep me smiling.

Describe a typical day in your job role?

My day normally starts off by taking the dog for an early 5.30am walk round the empty streets of Portishead where I live. I will then leave home at around 6.30am to beat the morning traffic and arrive in the office for just before 7. My first job is to put the coffee on after which I will go through my to do list for the day. Typically my daily job involves meetings, making numerous phone calls to agents, landowners, solicitors, consultants about specific jobs/issues, reviewing legal documentation such as agreements for lease and files, running financial appraisals of schemes, reading and replying to emails and a variety of other tasks required during the day. In between this I will discuss projects, opportunities and general topics (such as whether Wales will win the 6 nations rugby ever again and who watched Planet Earth last night) with my colleagues. I would typically leave the office by around 5pm to join the hoards of people trying to get home by a reasonable time at rush hour!

What makes Henry Boot Group of Companies a great place to work?

It is a friendly, supportive and professional place to work where everyone has a genuine work ethic and self determination to succeed both for the Company and themselves.

Describe a typical day in your job role?

There is no such thing as a typical day in my role; it could be an early morning train into London and a brisk walk into the office admiring that architecture on route; a meeting with a landowner concerned that he / she is going to get best value; a design workshop with a technical team creating the building blocks for communities that people can call home, business hubs for budding entrepreneurs, warehouses to serve the ever-expanding online economy or specialist accommodation for the elderly; a coffee with a planning consultant developing a strategy; a one to one with the Principal of an esteemed College understanding the legacy they aspire to achieve; a chat at home with a landed Estate family who have for generations invested in their community and who want to follow this tradition whilst still realising some revenue to invest back into the Estate; A meeting in a Parish Hall, explaining to the Parish Council and local residents the merits of the scheme; A site visit in the rain; it always seems to rain when I am out on site; A technical discussion with a housebuilder; I manage a team of four vibrant and enthusiastic professionals who are successfully growing our portfolio and keep me on my toes and I work with a network on specialists in a broad range of fields.

Describe a typical day in your job role?

Arrive at work around 7:45, check emails and backups to see what’s came in overnight. Chase up current jobs which are outstanding and see which people are having the same issue. I’ll then go through each job individually and spend some time looking at the issues. By the time I have done that for each job there would have been a few more that have come in and so I’ll repeat the process.

What makes Henry Boot Group of Companies a great place to work?

Henry Boot is great because all of the staff are easy to talk to and there’s something about it which is really inviting and gives you something to look forward to each day. In my time here, I haven’t come across somebody who has had a bad thing to say.

What is your secret talent?

Describe a typical day in your job role?

I look after a few projects on a day to day basis, ensuring their planning strategies are being seen through and proactively making decisions in an ever change planning and market place. Regularly undertaking site searching activities, primarily out on the road with the map, completing desktop analysis, talking to agents, Land Registry Searches, Promap Designs, hunting for landowner contacts. All in the effort to facilitate a landowner interview, negotiation and agreed land deal.

What makes Henry Boot Group of Companies a great place to work?

It is very much a team rather that a company of individuals.  The communication between every level of staff is excellent and the ability to approach team members with ideas, provides for a pleasant working environment.  Very commercially astute company, especially on the Hallam Land Management side, understands which opportunities are most beneficial for the company.

What is your secret talent?

Bringing land together to form a sizeable scheme that otherwise would be unviable for development.  In a market place where the majority of land has been viewed by a number of companies, the ability to bring these complex land parcels together is extremely beneficial, as these tend to be dismissed by others.
