Corporate Responsibility has been a significant part of what Henry Boot PLC has done for many years and is integral to our business offering; we do not seek to gain competitive advantage from our activities but rather see it as our opportunity to give back to the localities which have and continue to support our business operations.

We will act in accordance with our core values and are committed to embed the principles of corporate responsibility and sustainability through our business operations.

Our corporate responsibility programme is a fundamental part of who we are, and is pulled together under four strands: Our Health and Safety, Our People, Our Community, and Our Environment.

We are committed through our robust management systems to ensure that we manage our businesses with health and safety as the primary focus of all we do and that we continually work to improve our environmental impact and promote good environmental stewardship.

Our commitment takes many forms, from providing volunteers for community initiatives, sponsorship of local events, providing advice and experience to local groups, schools and colleges, to supporting our employees to realise their full potential.

We have identified a number of key performance indicators (KPI’s) against which we measure ourselves, these are monitored during the year and action taken if necessary.

We have a number of stakeholders who have an interest in our corporate responsibility work and equally, who we like to involve in our activity to ensure that we're focusing our efforts in the right place. Our programme is shaped by input from our key stakeholders; clients, employees, suppliers and the local communities in which we work.

The clear aim of Henry Boot PLC is to:

  • ensure that all our projects are undertaken in a safe manner; health and safety continues to be our highest priority;
  • support our employees and those in our wider communities to realise their full potential;
  • support the local communities in which we operate; and
  • take full responsibility for our impact upon our environment.

Case Study
Herd of Sheffield

During the summer of 2016 Henry Boot Construction Limited and Banner Plant Limited teamed up with The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity in order to safely deliver, as logistics donor, the art installation ‘Herd of Sheffield’, which was a total of 58 elephants all painted by different artists and installed as a trail around Sheffield.

Henry Boot sponsored two elephants: Henry the Constructor which was painted by Deven Bhurke and Heard Sheffield? by Temper. All the elephants were auctioned and raised a fantastic £410,600, with our elephants being auctioned for £5,000 and £7,800 respectively.

Whilst we were unsuccessful in our own bids at auction, we were delighted to receive a bespoke small version of Henry the Constructor, renamed Dave, after our colleague Dave Woodhouse who coordinated our logistical efforts, as a thank you from The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.
