Outline your apprenticeship/course

I joined Henry Boot Construction Limited after finishing my undergraduate studies at Sheffield Hallam University in September 2020. I studied Architectural Technology. I am currently a Trainee Technician in the company, and I have started by acquiring experience on a construction site in a live education project. I am very much involved in the day to day activities on site, from learning how to undertake site inductions, communicating with the site team and subcontractors, attending site meetings, completing site paperwork, completing a site diary outlining the work that has been carried out on site. It has only been three months since joining Henry Boot Construction and I am loving every moment of it.

I am currently completing my MSc in Construction Project Management at Sheffield Hallam University alongside working. Other training that I am involved in now are the SMSTS, First Aid at Work and Fire Warden. All essential training that are useful for my current role and that I aim to use at my very best throughout my career.

I love being able to think outside the box when dealing with things and that’s what Henry Boot has taught me so far and I enjoy being part of a team and knowing what other projects are next.

What are your plans for after you complete your apprenticeship?

Upon completing my trainee scheme and graduating in 2022, I am aspiring to become a Site Manager/Construction Manager and climb the ladder in reaching senior roles and I plan to build a long journey here at Henry Boot and attain my chartership through the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

I started at Henry boot in June 2017 as an Apprentice Account Assistant and have been studying for my AAT accounting qualification since. This is spread over 3 Levels (level 2, 3 and 4) and I have just completed my level 3 qualification and am getting ready to study for my Level 4 qualification this January which will take around 2 years to complete.

After I have completed my level 4, I will have completed my AAT Qualification. After that I need to decide which account route I want to go down which will then decide what qualification I study for next. There is CIMA (Charted Institute of Management Accountants) which focuses on management accounts or ACCA (Association of Charted Certificate Accountants) which is more focuses on the technical side of accounts such as tax and auditing, both of which are said to take around 3 – 4 years to complete.
